Smith Corona Electric Typewriter

The Legend

It all began when Lyman, Wilbert, Monroe and Hurlburt Smith founded the Smith Premier Typewriter Company in 1886, with its primary Smith Corona Electric Typewriter machine having the characteristic of upper case and lower case letters.  It joined the Union Typewriter Company, a consortium in Syracuse, New York which houses other firms like Remington, Caligraph, Densmore and Yost, after 13 years of contemplation.  However, when Union Typewriter Company hindered them from utilizing the latest strike design, Smith brothers abandoned the company and stood out on their own with the name L. C. Smith and Brother Typewriter Company.

Meanwhile, in the same state, Rose Typewriter Company successfully advertised and sold the first portable typewriter in 1906.  Three years later, it moved to Groton and modified its name into Standard Typewriter Company.  With victory in their hands because of their Corona model, Standard Typewriter Company was again altered to Corona Typewriter Company.  Smith Corona was then established as L. C Smith and Brothers fused with Corona Typewriter making a perfect blend of portable office typewrites.

Moments after World War II, typewriters have been in a great demand.  In 1957, Smith Corona later on produced handy electric typewriters with the intention of facilitating paper works most especially for businessmen.  They also believed that it would be a useful machine for high school and college students as they deal with their school requirements.
